Dr. Gerard Crawford, Well-Known OB/GYN Specialist, Passes Away at 74
Well-known obstetrics and gynecology specialist Dr. Gerard Crawford passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the age of 74. He died surrounded by his beloved family.
Dr. Crawford was born in Washington, DC, on February 18, 1949. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School in Corozal, Puerto Rico, in 1968. He then served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972.
After his military service, Dr. Crawford earned a master's degree from Boston State College in 1978. He then attended medical school at St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada, graduating in 1983.
Dr. Crawford completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, from 1983 to 1987. He then moved to Lowville, New York, where he began a private practice.
Dr. Crawford was a dedicated and compassionate physician who cared for countless women in the North Country. He was known for his gentle touch and his ability to put his patients at ease. He was also a strong advocate for women's health and was active in many professional organizations.
Dr. Crawford retired from his practice in August 2023. He is survived by his wife, Toni, and their six children. He is also survived by his siblings and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Church in Lowville on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lewis County Health System Foundation in Dr. Crawford's name.
