After being found guilty of rape and sentenced to time in prison, a lot of people took to social media to celebrate but it looks like Harvey Weinstein was not taken to Rikers Island jail after the sentence. Instead, the disgraced Hollywood director complained of chest pains and was rushed to the hospital as a result.
On February 24, Weinstein was found guilty of 2 counts of sexual assault and third-degree rape but instead of spending his first night in prison, he spent it in the hospital after a health crisis.
Until his March 11 sentencing, he was supposed to be taken to Rikers Island jail and as he was headed there in cuffs, he complained of chest pains so he never made it to the notorious NY jail.
He was taken to Bellevue Hospital as per Variety via his rep.
Variety also noted that Bellevue is actually a psychiatric hospital first and foremost by it is also supposed to respond to any medical emergency coming from NYC jail inmates.
Since Weinstein is soon to become that, it makes sense that they took him there.
The prison to which he is headed has a history of violence among inmates but that is where he will be awaiting his final sentencing.
Until now, he has been a free man since his arrest in May of 2018, on a $2 million bail.
His attorney, Donna Rotunno has already asked Justice James Burke for the Hollywood mogul to remain free on bond up to his sentencing next month on the basis of his unsuccessful back surgery not too long ago.
However, the judge decided to remand him to Rikers!
